On Wednesday, the D.C. congressional office welcomed 12 high school students from across the Northern Mariana Islands who traveled to Washington to learn more about the federal government and civic engagement. After meeting with congressional staff to discuss the work being done on behalf of the Marianas, the students toured the U.S. Capitol and even had the opportunity to visit the House Floor. Thank you to Jude Burgos, Adam Xuan, Annabella Tudela, Edwin Sibucao Jr., Alaysha Fejeran, Ellie Cho, Ciana Demapan, Taylor Cruz, Haily Aaron, Jelina Calvo, Raiahli Barcinas, Senline Kaipat, chaperones Vinny Orisini and Shirley Cepeda, and Close Up coordinator Charlotte Thomson for the wonderful visit. The students were visiting through the Close Up Foundation program, a civic education organization dedicated to helping young people gain a deeper understanding of history, government institutions, current issues, and the important role citizens play in our democracy.
