Building Stronger Pacific Partnerships
I recently joined fellow Members of the Pacific Islands Caucus for a roundtable discussion with ambassadors from Pacific Island nations, where we discussed issues ranging from economic cooperation, maritime security, educational opportunities, and disaster response. As the representative of the CNMI, I highlighted the deep cultural, historical, and family ties that connect us to our Pacific neighbors. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Coast Guard, I also emphasized the Coast Guard’s important work with Pacific Island nations to combat illegal fishing, drug trafficking, and other transnational crimes that threaten our region. I further highlighted my work on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to support veterans from the Freely Associated States, whose service in the U.S. Armed Forces reflects the longstanding bonds between our island communities. The CNMI’s future is closely tied to that of the broader Pacific, and I remain committed to strengthening partnerships that help keep our region secure and prosperous.
