This week, I joined my colleagues in signing a bi-partisan letter urging Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to extend a formal invitation to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to address a Joint Session of Congress. An incredible feat was achieved with the election of the first American pontiff. Inviting him to address Congress would be a remarkable opportunity to bring Americans together in a moment of unity, reflection, and inspiration. I strongly urge Speaker Johnson to extend this invitation. If Pope Leo XIV accepts, it would mark only the second time in history that a sitting pope has addressed a Joint Session of Congress, and the fifth time a sitting pope has visited the United States.
